The Biomedical Engineering Undergraduate Study Program at the Faculty of Science and Technology, Universitas Airlangga, successfully hosted a guest lecture titled “Biomedical Signal Processing With Machine Learning and Deep Learning” on May 22, 2026. The event featured Prof. Tetsuya Shimamura, an expert in signal processing and intelligent systems from Japan, as the keynote speaker. During the lecture, Prof. Shimamura presented the latest developments in the application of machine learning and deep learning for the analysis of biomedical signals—such as EEG, ECG, and other biosignals—to support more accurate, real-time medical diagnoses. Attended by students, faculty members, and researchers from the UNAIR Biomedical Engineering program, the event aimed to broaden perspectives on integrating artificial intelligence into the field of biomedical engineering. An enthusiastic interactive discussion also took place, focusing particularly on the challenges of implementing deep learning algorithms in medical devices and opportunities for international collaborative research. Through this guest lecture, the UNAIR Biomedical Engineering program hopes to encourage students to keep pace with global technological trends and contribute to innovations in signal- and AI-based healthcare solutions.
