The Biomedical Engineering Undergraduate Study Program at Universitas Airlangga Strengthens Preparations for IABEE International Accreditation through Expert Mentorship from UTM Malaysia

Surabaya, October 19, 2026 – In preparation for the international accreditation process by the Indonesian Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (IABEE)—scheduled to take place from November 4–6, 2026—the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Biomedical Engineering at the Faculty of Science and Technology, Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), held an accreditation preparatory meeting on Monday, October 19, 2026, featuring an international guest speaker, Dr. Ardiyansyah bin Syahrom from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Malaysia.

This activity serves as a strategic step for the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Biomedical Engineering at UNAIR to ensure its readiness for an international accreditation assessment process. Through this initiative, the program team has the opportunity to receive input, guidance, and mentorship from experts with experience in engineering education and higher education quality assurance.

During the preparatory meeting, the discussion focused on various key aspects relevant to the IABEE accreditation process, particularly the fulfillment of criteria for Outcome-Based Education (OBE). These aspects include the alignment of Program Educational Objectives (PEO), Student Outcomes (SO), the curriculum, the teaching and learning process, assessment systems, and mechanisms for evaluation and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI).

Furthermore, this activity serves as an opportunity to review the completeness of accreditation documents, evidence of the implementation of the educational system, and the consistency between planning, execution, evaluation, and follow-up actions within the educational operations of the Bachelor’s (S1) Biomedical Engineering Study Program at UNAIR.

The presence of Dr. Ardiyansyah bin Syahrom from UTM Malaysia is expected to provide an international perspective on the delivery of engineering education in accordance with international accreditation standards. The insights shared will serve as a basis for evaluation by the study program’s accreditation team, helping them identify areas that require further strengthening ahead of the actual assessment.

The head and team of the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Biomedical Engineering at UNAIR, along with all involved parties, have emphasized the importance of coordination and a shared commitment in preparing for all assessment requirements. This preparation is focused not only on meeting administrative criteria but also on demonstrating the quality of educational delivery, the attainment of graduate learning outcomes, and the ongoing implementation of a culture of quality.

Through these meetings and mentoring sessions, the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Biomedical Engineering at UNAIR aims to enhance its preparedness for the IABEE assessment scheduled for November 4–6, 2026. This initiative is part of Universitas Airlangga’s ongoing commitment to improving the quality of higher education, strengthening the competitiveness of its graduates, and developing a Biomedical Engineering curriculum that remains adaptive to advancements in science and technology—both nationally and internationally.

Driven by a spirit of collaboration and continuous quality improvement, the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Biomedical Engineering at UNAIR remains committed to delivering high-quality biomedical engineering education that meets international standards.
